Professional Experience

10/2013 - Present Technical Team Lead
RealPage, Inc. (NASDAQ: RP)

  • Lead a team of up to nine local and remote software, DevOps, and test engineers in an Agile environment.
  • Drive technical vision and architecture for the ActiveBuilding suite of products. Work closely with product owners to define and prioritize tasks.
  • Developed all software, hardware integrations, and REST APIs for a completely new product -- smart Internet-connected package delivery lockers placed in the common areas of apartment and condo communities, allowing packages to be delivered and picked up 24/7 without needing to involve the on-site management staff.
  • Transitioned the ActiveBuilding SaaS product to the RealPage ecosystem after RealPage, Inc. acquired ActiveBuilding in late 2013.

5/2007 - Present Owner & Lead Developer
GigaShock, LLC (formerly GigaShock Web Development)

  • Create a wide array of private web apps and utilities for client's internal use ranging from simple tools to complex web applications based on requirements defined by the client.
  • Work closely with clients throughout the United States and Canada to develop new public websites, redesign existing websites, or add additional functionality to existing websites.
  • Set up, manage, and maintain all client domain names, email accounts, web servers, database servers, file backups, eCommerce solutions, and all other hosted software.
  • Provide personal remote technical support services using TeamViewer remote support software.

10/2012 - 10/2013 Senior Software Development Engineer
ActiveBuilding, LLC (later acquired by RealPage, Inc.)

  • Developed new features for and resolve defects on the "ActiveBuilding" and "MyBuilding" SaaS web applications used by multi-family and condo communities for their operational and communication needs.
  • Planned and executed a large set of changes based on my feedback regarding the product's security including closing obscure but vulnerable endpoints and switching the web application to operate on secure TLS connections for all pages.
  • Grew the team from a single local developer by hiring and training more than five additional developers within a short time while maintaining strict coding standards and a high level of output.
  • Implemented critical integrations with third parties to extend the functionality of our product and share data with payment providers and back-office property management systems such as Yardi Voyager and RealPage OneSite.

5/2009 - 7/2011 Resident Technology Assistant Coordinator

  • Managed and supervised a staff of 9 student employees including hiring, firing, discipline, training, performance reviews, and promotions.
  • Researched, recommended, and implemented alternative open-source software solutions saving the Division of Student Affairs tens of thousands of dollars in recurring licensing fees.
  • Oversaw the purchase, configuration, and deployment of hundreds of thin client hardware terminals throughout Student Affairs departments.
  • Independently built numerous desktop and web applications to streamline workflows, increase automation, and gather valuable statistics.
  • Collaborated with staff and student programmers to jointly complete a number of large software development projects making use of agile development techniques and a distributed version control system.

  • Provided in-room technical support to 300 residents, student staff, and full-time employees in assigned residence hall.
  • Staffed help desk to provide telephone and walk-in assistance to all university students.
  • Serviced the technology needs of university employees within the Division of Student Affairs through in-person or telephone support.
  • Developed desktop software, web services, and other tools critical to the security of the University of Montana's residential campus network.

5/2003 - 7/2006 (Intermittent) Information Technology Assistant
Maier Manufacturing, Inc. (aka Maier USA) - Grass Valley, CA

  • Supported, upgraded, and maintained software and hardware configurations for desktop and laptop computers for up to 50 employees throughout all departments.
  • Managed and troubleshot critical server and networking systems including internal application servers, an email server, a file server, routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Redesigned company's public website to incorporate a custom built hierarchical product navigation system using JavaScript while developing a dynamic theme framework in PHP to replace the use of static HTML files.
  • Increased productivity of IT department by suggesting and demonstrating the use of remote support software including UltraVNC.

Nevada County Superintendent of Schools - Nevada City, CA

  • Planned, prepared, and presented lessons and instructional materials for a diverse group of blind and low-vision students in conjunction with other instructors.
  • Provided one-on-one and group instruction to students regarding the use of specialized accessibility computer software, hardware, and tools including screen magnification software, screen reading software, optical character recognition software, braille input and output devices, CCTV readers, and more.
  • Set up and maintained laptop and desktop computers used for instruction including software installation, software patching, antivirus and security configurations, and any necessary troubleshooting.
